Solid post. Reinforces a lot of what I’ve learned over a lifetime of trying different things. Picks up a lot of the nuance that makes for more effective workouts.

Of course now I have to try to be Supermedium Waffle House Ready.

I appreciate the emphasis on each individual: what they want, what they have available, and the time they have to dedicate to training.

The elite athlete versus the average individual trying to be Waffle House Ready is golden. Thank you for making that distinction.

Helpful! On track with 2%! Thanks!

Great post, would love to hear more from Josh if possible on here. Maybe a few upper body lower body workouts for the average 2pcter?

Great conversation! It would be awesome to see some sort of SUPERMEDIUM template (a la what you guys are discussing here) of how to lift when you have two or three days a week and are really just trying to build overall fitness rather than maximum strength or hypertrophy.

Based on stuff you've written about here, I've been experimenting with this version. Seems like a solid base but I feel like it could use some fine-tuning

DAY A:

Superset 1: one leg squat, 3x6-10 (with weight)

bird dog, 3x10

Superset 2: bench press, 3x6-10

dumbbell row, 3x6-10

DAY B:

Superset 1: trap bar deadlift, 3x6-10

Plan, 3x60 seconds

Superset 2: landmine press, 3x6-10

Pull ups, 3 sets

You returned from your 850 mi hike at 167 down from 182. Now that you’ve been strength training, what’s your current weight? What about body composition(lean tissue vs fat)? How does compare now versus just before you started your hike?

Sadly, we don't have a Waffle House in Las Vegas. I think they know it would be far too chaotic.
