I never would've imagined, outside of the Grinch, a heart could get that small. That is some terrifying stuff.

It bugs me that these studies were often only done on men. Women’s bodies work much differently. I suspect women would fare far worse. The muscle loss they observed is scary and is what worries me

most about diet culture today, especially among women.

Thinking of this conjures up the story “Into the Wild”. Christopher McCandless thought he was eating something life sustaining until it wasn’t. Then the story (author: Krakauer) of starvation in all its horrific details played out pretty much as the research showed. Depressing but important read.

It would be interesting to know others thoughts and Michael have you ever covered this book/story?

He may have been OK and made it out (albeit far lighter) if he hadn't eaten poisonous food. His big problem is that he was wildly unprepared for a wilderness that has basically no room for error.

Awesome to see Janji on the 2% wagon! Some of the highest quality clothing I’ve ever purchased.

Their gear is fantastic. One of the few brands making truly interesting gear rather than copies of everyone else's stuff.

This is not starvation but I’ve had much success with fasting. I lost 25 lbs last year and looking forward to losing another 25 this year. It does come with significant challenges especially given the fact that I run a good amount. The weight loss has made a significant impact on the overall quality of life energy, mood and focus are far better. also helps my pace quite a bit!

This study is fascinating, but disturbing at the same time.

So this article is free but the actual strategy is behind the paywall? Really? On a subject like weight loss and dieting? Might as well just pick up some ozempic.

The strategy comes out today. You'll have access to it because you're a Member.

With all due respect, yes I’m aware I’ll be able to view the strategy.

Surprised to see David Protein Bars as a sponsor of this newsletter. Ingredient list doesn't look all that great.

My take with protein supplements is that they're a useful tool when you're busy. Beats a candy bar, Fritos, and whatever else we can buy in a wrapper at an airport or gas station.

Natural sources of protein like lean meats and dairy are better—but they often require prep time and a fridge.

I don't know...it looks like a candy bar to me, but with a lot of protein. I'm not as traveled as you, but it seems like there are a lot better options in gas stations and airports these days.

David Protein Bars seems to be new to the scene and sponsors a ton of podcasts and newsletters. No offense, but it just seems like a money grab to me.
