I loved this line: "The aesthetic of military-inspired gear also says, “I’m staging a coup against the HOA.” Some people dig that. Some don’t." It made me laugh out loud!! I live in a neighborhood with a very chill HOA, but some HOAs need a coup de etat!!
Here’s my question. If walking with weight at the hips/midsection is beneficial, doesn’t that suggest that people who are overweight, who have an extra 10 or 20 pounds at the midsection, should benefit from carrying that extra weight? They have a built in pack!
But we know this isn’t correct.
To me this is a contradiction in the thesis about weighted walking. Especially with the idea of a weighted pack around the midsection. What am I missing?
overweight people who are active develop the additional strength to carry their mass… so for them as w everyone else- your body mass is simply baseline… not something to over think.
This is interesting. But how do we know the fanny packs are "better" than vests or backpacks. I have used both wted vests and backpacks. Would love to see a study testing all three to see which is best.
We're not saying they're better. Each tool has a place!
The hip packs are lighter, will fit some bodies better, and allow for weighting entirely at the hips, which has some benefits. And you can wear them for longer durations of time more "normally."
E.g., I would use a pack if I wanted a heavier ruck. I would wear the hip belt if I wanted to hike with a bit more challenge but not go super heavy. Or just walk around my hood on a hotter day without wearing a vest or pack.
Goddamint Michael! Now I want the bigger pack for hiking with some added weight. Tried to buy it but the discount code is t working. That blue is dreamy.

Keep the podcast recaps coming…they are almost as good as (maybe better) than the podcast themselves.

Discount code not working...says invalid. I don't want to be invalid!
