This was a refreshing conversation on meditation. I liked hearing about how it’s another way to embrace discomfort. I’d definitely agree - in 5 years or so of meditating, most times it’s just fighting to concentrate and sit still. This is the first time I’ve heard that it’s a good thing.
I’ve wanted to try meditation for a while, but finding the time is a struggle and kid free, but maybe this is the push I need to give it a try. Thanks for the interview, it was enlightening!
I’ve tried several times to take up meditation and the struggle is real. I do like the Headspace app that’s guided and their binaural music is awesome for shutting my brain off on those nights I can’t fall asleep.
Fantastic interview Michael. I was meditating for about 25 years of Vipassana and was looking for some goal. Took a break for a year. After listening to Cara Lai on Embrace Discomfort.I went back to it. Now building up graduall. Now with Henry,I could be starting to have some guide along the path. Thank you Michael!
I think a big part of why people struggle with meditation has to do with misunderstanding what the "goal" of mediation is, if there ever was one. Meditation in its purest form is nothing more than paying close attention to the nature of experience as it is. There isn't a goal, there isn't anything to get from it, there isn't anywhere to "arrive". All the benefits come as a result of not trying.
I didn’t get the conversation with Henry on the podcast feed. I feel like there’s been some other recent posts that are missing. Anyone else or just me?

Great! Lean into that.

Fantastic interview Michael. You seemed pretty chilled out and zen yourself during that one.
I'm glad you enjoyed it. I'll never be as zen as Henry, but I'll try.

I started meditating with Headspace.
I think Henry’s app is particularly well suited to beginners looking for the deeper lessons. From there, the WakingUp app is great.

Wonderful conversation, thank you both!

I am good. Have you tried to uninstall the app and re install it again?
It’s not the app, it’s the feed itself that doesn’t have it. I have the latest episode so it’s updating, it just didn’t include this one.
